<p><span style="font-size: larger;">This week I&nbsp;want to share with you a true story that represents the attitude and approach to implementing Infusionsoft that is close to ideal for everyone involved, especially a consultant engaged to ensure the implementation is successful.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I&nbsp;believe </span><a href="http://www.wealthnetpartners.com/infusionsoft/"><span style="font-size: larger;">Infusionsoft</span></a><span style="font-size: larger;"> has said that over 80% of their customers implement with success. This is directly related to the fact that new customers are required to invest in 4-6 Success Coaching calls.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Some owners, typically the small thinkers, complain that they must invest on the front end to ensure success.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">The key is, without an investment in a proven process to implement Infusionsoft or any other Customer Relationship Management (CRM), email marketing automation, eCommerce, etc., you are pretty much setting yourself up for failure.</span></p>

It&#8217;s been bugging me because I see this at least sixty percent of the time when I am working with CEO&#8217;s and business owners like the one you&#8217;re about to meet. So here goes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I write this article mostly to the CEO and business owner out there who has recently decided to invest in Infusionsoft. If you&#8217;re not familiar with Infusionsoft, check it out <a href="http://www.infusionsoft.com">here</a>.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Infusionsoft is a small business sales and marketing automation application that simply rocks for most small businesses using it. It integrates Customer Relationship Management (CRM) functionality with powerful email marketing automation, eCommerce and partner or affiliate management.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">In 2006 I started looking for a new solution for my own business. I found Infusionsoft. I&nbsp;fell in love with it. And as a business coach and online marketing consultant, I decided to become an Infusionsoft Certified Consultant in 2007 so I could help other business owners succeed with it as another tool in the tool kit of business growth. (The certification investment was a birthday present to myself! And an awesome one at that.)<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Since then my team and I have conducted literally hundreds of implementations, sometimes partnering with other super-talented and well-respected Infusionsoft Certified Consultants serving similar markets and customers.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Now I want to share a brief story with you. It&#8217;s about a CEO of a very successful, offline business. We&#8217;ll call him Mr. Big Cheese, or Mr. B.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Mr. B&#8217;s business has been around for over 20 years. He decided he needed to ramp up marketing and the new focus is 100% online marketing. He invested recently in Infusionsoft after investigating a number of other software solutions.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Fast forward one week to the launch &#8230;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Shortly thereafter I am in Mr. B&#8217;s Big Board Room (BBR). He&#8217;s got his iPhone. During the meeting he&#8217;s sharing the big picture in response to the many questions I start firing off in my desire to get my head around the business, marketing and sales model.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">We&#8217;re supposed to be kicking off the strategy session, of which there are six. The purpose of the process for new CEOs, business owners and others using Infusionsoft is to ensure the setup is done thoroughly and that all aspects of the application are in place with the first one or two marketing campaigns launched. (I believe the success rate is over 85% with Infusionsoft Success Coaching implementations.)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Instead, Mr. B. is taking phone calls on what appears to be his new iPhone. He&#8217;s fascinated with it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I am fascinated by his fascination with the stupid phone instead of getting focused before his staff walks into the BBR.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Soon, the staff walks into the BBR.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Mr. B attempts to introduce me as &quot;some marketing guy&quot; apparently oblivious to what I am there to really do with this team.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">The team sits down and focuses their complete attention on Mr. B. He&#8217;s still messing around with his iPhone.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I offer a suggestion to get focused on the task at hand which is to begin implementing the software. We need to get to know who on the team is responsible for the respective tasks on the business, marketing and sales action plan.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">But there is no plan. No plan for sure when it comes to sales and marketing. (Except for the six million mini plans running around in Mr. B&#8217;s head because he&#8217;s recently paid $25,000 to be in the Big Hitter Internet Marketing Guru Jet Set Club, better known as the BHIMGJSC.)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">As there is no plan it&#8217;s hard to know who&#8217;s doing what. Of course, the team is wondering what the heck Mr. B is thinking making them figure out this new-fangled software stuff he&#8217;s just dumped on them, because there is no plan.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">The team agrees on the next five dates to hold our implementation meetings and calls. Most of the time we do this work virtually. In some instances, it makes way more sense to do the work in an intensive 2-3 day onsite implementation at the main office for the customer.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I can tell by the end of the dedicated hour that is now 90 minutes that this implementation is going to be ugly. Really ugly.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Here&#8217;s why.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">1. There is no clear, written business, marketing or sales action plan. (Mr. B is not clear or focused himself.)<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">2. Roles and responsiblities for the team are not clearly defined.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">3. There is clearly no one on the current team willing or capable of being the &quot;driver&quot; or &quot;champion&quot; of the system. (It should NOT be the role of the CEO to be driving this system on a daily basis.)<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">4. The CEO is not focused and the team does not respect him. (They do fear him though.)<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">5. The CEO&nbsp;thinks he knows a ton about online marketing. He does not.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">6. The CEO is not willing to commit to a process.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">7. The CEO is not willing to trust an outside consultant to do his or her job.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">8. The CEO has a ton of head trash about what works in marketing and sales, 20 years ago.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">9. The CEO believes his new BHIMGJSC will save him and show him the way.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">10. The CEO does not generally listen to anyone, routinely talks over people, interrupts people and screws around with his iPhone. He is NOT coachable.<br />
</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">There you have it. This is precisely how NOT to implement Infusionsoft or any other piece of software into your business.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">Here&#8217;s what you need to do to succeed with your implementation of Infusionsoft or any other application intended for your business.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">1. Have a clear, written plan for your business, marketing and sales.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">2. Engage a Chief Marketing Officer so you don&#8217;t have to invest $220,000 a year to hire a real one. Let him or her drive your strategy and implementation IF they have a proven background of doing so themselves and have a team behind them to support you.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">3. Focus. Pay attention. Stop thinking you know it all.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">4. Leverage a real team of people, outsourced or hired directly, and meld the talents of the people on your team to your plan and hold them accountable. (Right people, right seats, on the bus!)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">5. Be realistic about the PROCESS of implementing Infusionsoft. It takes time, planning, and proper communication to be successful with your implementation.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">In short, CEO&#8217;s with big egos tend to get in their own way. And in the way of the team. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">It&#8217;s painful to see as an Infusionsoft consultant. But it&#8217;s a fact of business life. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-size: larger;">I will just keeping doing my best.<br />
