Apr 23, 2010 Climbing the Learning Curve for Email Marketing, SEO and SEM

Last week I learned an important lesson about Internet marketing as it relates to follow up through email marketing. In my weekly email newsletter, WealthNet Wisdom for Entrepreneurs, I realized after the fact that my salutation was to well, to me, Clifford.  When I realized what had happened I thought, “Ouch.”  What a blunder. Part me and part software.  Oh well.

After kicking myself for a bit, I realized that it was a simple mistake on my part.  Humans make mistakes.  Software isn’t always perfect.  Yet, we can learn from our mistakes if we are willing to keep DOING the work.  Meaning committing to crafting marketing communications, learning how to use software like Infusionsoft, communicating on a consistent basis, offering education-based marketing, and following up with our tribe so to speak.

Here’s my real point.  There’s a serious learning curve when it comes to Internet marketing.  Becoming good at it requires discipline and consistency.  For us, this includes designing websites for lead generation and ROI, blogging, copy writing, email marketing, leveraging social media, conducting search engine optimization (optimizing your website) and search engine marketing (paid and organic strategies to attract more visitors.)  It takes time, talent, lots of practice and a great team to leverage.

There really is no finish line and the rules keeping changing every day.  The truth is that I have invested literally thousands and thousands of hours learning Internet marketing, including how to leverage Infusionsoft for email marketing and follow up.  I have a long way to go too.  My team is actually far more talented than me in most areas like pay per click, etc.  Yet the more I practice and keep at it with my team and clients, the more I take classes and read, the more I learn and the better I get.  The same is probably true for you.

I am very grateful for the many clients we work with every day.  What I love is that most, not all, of our clients are deeply committed to investing in and growing their businesses by leveraging the Internet.  Our clients are dynamic and focused entrepreneurs who are willing to invest in the growth of their business, even if it means borrowing money to do so.  (That’s commitment!)

Our clients are willing to plan, learn, test, do, and adapt as they go.  Like me, they realize that they will make mistakes.  They will realize that no software or strategy is perfect.  They keep showing up every day doing what it takes to market, sell and grow.  They are willing to climb the learning curve.

Our clients work with us because they don’t have the time, interest or capacity to do all the stuff we can do to help them when it comes to Internet marketing and sales development. Website design, copy writing, software stuff, search engine optimization and marketing, and so on.  They leverage our team to market more effectively and grow their businesses.

Either way, they are learning and DOING with us.  They are willing to make mistakes.  They are willing to climb the learning curve with us.  And in exchange, they grow personally and enjoy the benefits of creating real wealth through entrepreneurship.
