Can Entrepreneurs Take A Real Vacation?

Hi. If we don’t each other yet, I’m Cliff Jones. And I’m a serial entrepreneur. Welcome to my blog.

If we do know each other you know I’ve been "off the radar" at work for the last few weeks. Little stuff came up. I turned 50. My whole family flew in from all over. We moved to a new home. And I needed some naps. Serious naps.

I am on vacation right now. Sort of.

You see I have a, well, let’s call it a "condition." It’s called Ilovewhatyoudoitis.

The truth is I would love to take a real vacation with my wife, two sons, the dog, the cat, and heck, let’s bring all the in-laws while I’m at it. I say this because it is important to my wife of 26 years. (She’s amazing.)

But taking a traditional "vacation" for me is right up there with a long swim with sharks. I choose not to sit on a beach for longer than a nanosecond. I don’t like paying a premium for holiday hotels and airfares. Airports suck. And it can get really "busy" doing all the vacation crap I could do any day of the week any way! Plus I really, really love our new house. (We are headed to California for the next couple of days though.)

So here’s my point. If you have Ilovewhatyoudoitis like I do, you can basically take a breather any time you want. You may even like big, fancy, expensive, tourist-laden travel. Whatever it takes to stay supercharged and focused when you are at work.

You may be on vacation right now too. Maybe you’re even doing a little work you need to do to keep the business or team moving along according to plan. (We can’t let go completely. At least I can’t.)
