Feb 13, 2009 When Work Isn’t Work

I’ve been really charged up lately about a new Internet and E-commerce marketing project I’ve been working on with some new clients. As I sit here and reflect on the last few days and the many hours I’ve been working, it occurs to me that work isn’t work. What I mean is that many entrepreneurs are blessed to be so connected with their business, mission, focus and work that work just doesn’t seem like work. So as I sit here and write at 10:40 pm, having started the work day at 6:30 am, work still doesn’t seem like work. I am connected to a purpose that drives me.

Being too connected to business and work though has a downside. It can suck us in so deep that we don’t really notice that we might be losing perspective on other important things in life. Like hugging our kids. And telling our spouses or significant others that we love them. Or taking a nap. Meditating. And working out.

I consider it an absolute blessing that work doesn’t seem like work. I believe, for me, it’s a function of being totally on purpose. I haven’t always been this way. And there are also times when work feels like water torture. But most of the time my connection to work makes it so work just doesn’t feel like work.

Helping my clients feel this way is a great blessing as well. Good night!
