One of my favorite movie scenes is from Training Day. (WARNING: CLIP CONTAINS FOUL LANGUAGE. The clip is in the little image in the upper left. Not particularly high quality, but I chose this site because it gives a decent amount of depth preceding the quote if you’ve not seen the movie before.)
To paraphrase the quote of interest, internet marketing strategy is chess, not checkers. Checkers is a simple game, you have 2 types of pieces (regular and kings) that can do essentially 2 activities (move 1 space or jump). Chess is obviously significantly more sophisticated. There is a larger quantity of pieces, they move in different ways, there are complex moves like en passant and castling, etc. Even the objective of chess is more sophisticated (capture the most important piece, not capture all the pieces).
All day long we talk to people who are baffled they are not winning the top search engine placement game. Generally, these individuals are playing by the wrong rules, or their strategy does address all the moving parts. What would it be like to play a chess game if you could not move even a single piece type. If you couldn’t move your pawns, the only piece you could play with would be your knights. If you couldn’t move your knights you wouldn’t be able to castle or jump over any pieces. And everyone can easily imagine how impaired you’d be if you couldn’t move your bishops, rooks, queen, or king. Using all but one or 2 of the pieces isn’t good enough if you’re playing against an opponent who knows how to use all of them even reasonably well.
Many people build a beautiful website, and then wonder why it gets no visitors. Many people write beautiful copy but wonder why they don’t have a higher conversion rate. WealthNet’s internet marketing strategies take a comprehensive look at all of the tactics available to your business. We crafts elegant plans that meet our clients budget and time constraints. If you’re doing everything you know how, and are still having mediocre results on the internet, we’d be happy to discuss your strategy in greater depth. In short, we play chess, and we play it well.
Do you have an experience about how taking a more comprehensive view of your marketing allowed you to gain market share. Do you disagree and feel you only need to address one or two key strategies to be successful on the internet. Let your voice be heard in the comments.
